Underground clock

Anyone know what the font is? It is made of many shareable units. Humm. Does anyone know anyone that reads this crap? I don’t.

Designer drainpipe.

Vienna – I love the details. The customisation of the drainpipe makes it look as nice as it is useful. It looks cool when not raining and even cooler when it is. I want pipework with imagination- why don’t DIY stores sell giant bendy straw type pipes so we can cover our houses in neon [...]

This will not release money

The phrasing on this vending machine made me chuckle. It seems to be wriiten in reaction to overhearing a conversation rather than a statement of fact. “hey let’s tilt the chocolate machine it will get scared and release the funds to meet our demands. Yeah.”

Tea strainer

A wonderfully simple tea strainer with a drip bucket hinged on the side. As the strainer is lifted from the cup the drip stop comes into play. This is such an understated problem that most of us just ‘deal with’ I love that someone thought of it as a solvable issue and produced an aesthetically [...]

The white chain of desire.

Oh how I have been enjoying my bike purchase of last summer. Everyone should have a bike and all that do should get coloured chains. Mine is white and is nice. In fact after 8 months of daily use it is still nice, and erm still white. It lasts it lasts!

Boxes hanging out on paris street corners

Walking in north east central Paris I noticed these waist high box people chilling out between shops and on corners. They did not bother me with their wares but all the same they caught my eye, no two dressed the same but all with the same style of leaning. Like a ‘gangsta’ walk but a [...]

Don’t piss in my corner

This is a wonderful idea. Although I have no evidence I am completely convinced of the function of this feature. This masonary oddity is at the height of your adverage set of knees and can be found in many many of the ‘prime’ corners around the narrow passages of Venice. The top will not take [...]

Worlds shortest stairlift?

Making stairs usable. There are many ways of providing poloitically correct access to facilities. While many new developments think of this during conception with their many ramps and lifts older buildings need to retro-fit devices. This example of overkill is wonderful; I would like to believe that, a sprightly salesman is responsible for this motorized stairlift [...]

Rambling control. People control.

Crowd control and the movement of people can be controlled with different textured slabs so they can feel their way around but it can also be done with obstacles like walls. Every wall needs a hole or a door or an entrance but controlling the flow can be important. Over the last few months I [...]

Three wheelers in Sicily

You have to love tuk tuks. Found all over the world. Interestingly (for only me probably) I was not expecting to see them in Italy/ Sicily. What was nice is that rather than the dirtiness and overloaded style of their Indian counterparts the Sicilian versions were either loved or abandoned. Yes yes, not an exciting [...]

I want an instant cycle lane please!

The LightLane started life as an entry to a design competition aimed at promoting bicycle commuting. “Having witnessed several friends be hit by cars while in traffic, we felt the intimidation of sharing the road was one of the bigger barriers to commuting by bicycle,” Gant said. He designed the gadget with Alex Tee. They [...]

Communication is funny

Roadwork preparation

These road markings were at the junction south of the river of Blackfriers Bridge London mid 2008. I thought they looked nice enough to stop and record in the morning on the way in to work. I am not sure what they mean, I am guessing the symbols and colours relate to different services, gas, [...]

Hairy Pop-ins

This wonderful hairdresser/ barber is in Wokingham. Very nice name and equally wonderful styling!

50 Incredible Film Posters From Poland // WellMedicated

Some of these posters contain ingenious lateral thought on the content others simply do not. Makes you wonder how, or if, the artist was briefed about the movie. For exampl when describing ‘alien’ it looks like the description started and ended with ‘it is an odd alien that lives in the chest for a bit’. [...]
