Why are aircrafts so old and their content dated?

I do not have the answer but I am sitting on a 24 year old BA plane flying to Moscow. It has 200 plus business folk on it, no kids, no nothing. The amusing thing is that there are old CRT screens in the aisle, none that I woild watch even if i could see without obstruction; today’s business flight is showing Kung Fu Panda. at a minimum of £500 a seat that males this 24 year old plane worth £100,000 on this run alone.

So the question is, assuming this plane has paid for itself already and the plane is frequently at capacity like today – why can’t BA be thoughtful enough to offer some targetted entertainment, is it that you can only get children’s titles on VHS? And I love the plane, it is reasuringly old, the tables feel sturdy and the seats are like a worn in uncomfortable Chesterfield without the leather; but why not modernize it a bit. People are so entertainment driven, surly a good schedule would deter people from noticing the archaic features, the cracked interior, the loose rubber seal on the wing, the complete lack of luminecent signage and the bag racks that are not angled inversly- this when you open it, your bag slides out /on to you. Nice.

In the pic, note the ‘smaller than my phone’ screen in the bulkhead. Why bother.

Oh and at time of writing Moscow is ‘the most expensive city in the world’ I know I am on a BA flight but I wonder if this feeling of expensive luxury will be equally ill considered and over sold.
